» Member Spotlight

For our First Member Spotlight of 2014, a thank you to SpecialK, who accepted when I asked him for some time and to answer the following questions. . .

1. Do you root for the underdog? Or do you base your choice on the one who deserves to win?
I believe that the one who deserves to win.. does... but I am always hoping that is the underdog... as I like to believe... anything is possible. Just because one is the favorite.. doesn't mean it's necessarily the one who deserves to win.

2. Is there someone you can tell everything to without fear of judgment? Do you think this same person feels the same about you?
Of course. I have a couple of people I can talk about most anything.... but only one person who I can tell anything and everything to... and I feel a complete reciprocation from her.

3. If you've spent time being down, have you found it worse to deal with in the morning or harder to deal with at night? What kinds of things do you do to lift yourself up?
I've spent time in my life being down.. but during those times, mainly nights were more difficult.. as those have been much more lonely due to the empty bed and empty room I would find myself in. I would blog or involve my mind in World of Warcraft to keep it busy and either release... or bury my darker thoughts.

4. If you woke up with the ability to speak two new languages, what would they be?
Russian and Japanese... only because I know French somewhat.. but I just feel Russian and Japanese would be more exotic.

5. Is there a book you remember reading as a child (being read to you; anywhere from very young to about age 10) that still has an affect or even impact on you?
I remember reading so many books as a child that there were several that had an impact on me... Death Be Not Proud taught me about mortality... there were a number of fantasy books that taught me about dreaming and hidden talents that we all might have.. maybe a potential that we haven't discovered yet. There are many classics... like Frankenstein for example that show that people might not always be as they appear.. Charlotte's Web was the first book I read that made me cry... when Charlotte died... I think about all the books.. and realize that no one ever read books to me... not really.. my Grandmother would tell me stories.. but not from books.. this was prior to me going to school and learning to read. I think this is part of the reason I enjoyed storytelling as a part of my library curriculum in college.
